This photo was taken at a dance competition last winter. In this picture is my cousin, Devon, and one of his closest friends that he met while dancing, Hannah. They met when Devon first started dancing and have been close friends ever since. I used this picture because it was from the first competition he performed his first solo and won a platinum award and fourth overall out of the people he was competing against.

The community I have chosen to do my documentary on is the dance community. This is the same community I talked about in my speech but there is one particular aspect of it that I want to focus on in my documentary. My cousin Devon dances at a studio in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the only boy in a large studio of girls, but this has never stopped him from doing what he loves in the past seven years. Everyone in the studio was welcoming when he first started and now they are some of his best friends. What makes this a community is that all these people come together to do what they love. I know a lot about this community but would like to find out how Devon feels about being the only boy and how he has dealt with people knowing he dances. Some people aren’t the most accepting of this sport especially if you’re a boy. I have chosen this community because it is one that has been very close to me. I danced for five years and Devon is like a brother to me. I think this will be a great topic for me to learn more about and is one that should be shared with others.

My name is Sierra Goldfarb and I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I grew up in a town called Loveland and graduated from Loveland High School. I am an only child but grew up with all of my cousins so I was never lonely. My parents got divorced when I was in first grade which was a big transition. I also have three little dogs at home that I miss a lot.
One community I identify with is the Loveland community. I went to school there from eighth grade until senior year and made so many life long friendships. The Loveland community is so close and comes together as one for sporting events and other things going on.
Another community that I identify with is the dance community. I danced for five years, starting in seventh grade up until 11th grade. It was the first sport I really took an interest in and I loved it. I quit my senior year because of how big the commitment was. Even though I stopped I still love it, learned a lot, and made so many friends.
My expectations for this class are to become a stronger writer and feel more confident about my writing. Also to learn a lot about how to write certain things and what my strong suits are.
